CSOEMA Welcomes Residents!
CSOEMA is a very strong organization because of the talents, the hard work, and the willingness of CSOEMA members to contribute their time and energy to make our organization even stronger. CSOEMA feels that our Residents and Students are the future of Occupational Medicine. As our way of encouraging residents, our CSOEM Foundation, a 501(C)(3) Organization, provides registration costs for CSOEMA Resident Members to attend CSOEMA seminars free of charge.
CSOEMA is the largest component under the auspices of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), with 400+ members in seven central states – Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin and North Dakota. ACOEM was founded in 1916 and is the nation’s largest medical society dedicated to promoting the health of workers through preventive medicine, clinical care, research and education. A dynamic group of physicians encompassing specialists in a variety of medical practices is united via ACOEM to develop positions and policies on vital issues relevant to the practice of preventive medicine both within and outside of the workplace. ACOEM represents over 4,000 physicians specializing in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) recognizes and certifies qualified physicians in the medical specialty of occupational medicine.
If you are not yet involved in CSOEMA, I would encourage you to become more involved. Your participation in CSOEMA activities will help make our organization stronger yet, and you will benefit from the educational opportunities and professional camaraderie. We encourage you to attend our meetings (Spring and Fall Seminars) if you have not done so. We hope to meet you and offer the opportunity to learn more about us at our fall seminar, is occurring September 23-24 in Davenport, Iowa.
Besides attending our meetings, another way to get involved is to become a resident Board of Governors member. We are starting our 4th year of inviting a resident to participate. This has been a very positive experience for residents, Dr. Christina Cusic, Dr. Zeke McKinney, and Dr. Steve Rippentrop. Our current resident board member is Isabel Pereira. It has also benefited CSOEMA and the Board of Governors as we move forward into the future of Occupational Medicine.
